FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

ST. ROSE FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING Wednesday, July 15, 2026; 1:05 p.m. In attendance: Father Leo, Nancy Miller, Joe Surges, Joly Agdinaoay, Donna Hoffmann, Pat Botta, Sylvia Smith, Christina Jensen (in office) Father Leo led all in an opening prayer. Father spoke of attending along with Joe Surges a deanery at Sacred Heart Parish in Oakland. Sacred Heart along with St. Patrick and St. Augustine in Oakland will be closing. Sacred Heart has hired a papal lawyer from Las Vegas who has sent letters to the Oakland Diocese as well as the Papal State. Joe mentioned the Save Rome of the West website. Father mentioned August 23rd our Parish will be celebrating our patron saint St. Rose. There will be a novena every day starting August 14 through August 22. Father is asking for sponsors asking for a minimum of $50 or more. Funds going to the Living Memorial Fund. *MOTION: Donna Hoffmann made a motion to accept the April minutes. Joe Surges seconded the motion. Approved. Joe reported the St. Rose website is current. One can sign the petition on line. Joe’s letter to the Bishop is included on the website. Others can be published. Donna Hoffmann said ICF will have a gambling bus trip on July 24. August 9 is the ICF picnic. Nancy Miller reported the following: St. Rose checking account $68,187.46. As of June 30 $78,802.70. Living Memorial $23,358.36; ending balance June 30. Dedicated funds at $27,736.75. St. Patrick checking account $35,649.51. A new account entitled Save the Church. Steering Committee asked the Parish Council for $500 to open the account. Funds were released from the Living Memorial. Renters: garage is at $75 per month. The Narcotics Anonymous should be at $100 per month coming due the first of each month. An addendum needs to be added to the NA contract. There is insurancas Nancy said St. Rose received $50,000 from the Diocese to part of the Memorial Fund leaving another 25 – 30,000 for the fund. No other funds will be going to the Diocese to the end of the year as well as a second collection for Bishop’s Appeal. Father Leo will take a look at the 2nd collection whether to delete it or not but thinking of a second collection for Save the Church. Nancy brought up in conversation the Men’s Club and Women’s Club remaining funds that have not been utilized. $741 Men’s Club; $441.28 Women’s Club. The funds will be dispersed in 2026: Men’s Lady of Guadalupe; Women’s faith formation. *MOTION: Joe Surges made a motion to disperse funds in 2026. Father Leo seconded the motion. Approved. Church Ethics: St. Rose has 3 unused tabernacles. Discussion was held whether they should be sold. Decision was made not to sell ‘anything’ until the Diocese bankruptcy is settled. Fundraiser: the St. Rose concert netted $1775. Port Costa Mission: Joe reported the gutters were cleaned. A new roof would cost approximately $65,000. Joe is continuing to find other choices such as a metal roof. St. Rose budget percentages: Total income at 52.7%. Gas and Electric at 64.8% and water at 60.4%. Both those items need to be watched; why the increase. Under Liturgy Environment large increase. Why? It was suggested that part of the $1284.31 should be under the category of Flowers. Baptism was at $112.40 instead of budget $50. The reason being there were 4 baptisms; had to purchase supplies. January to June 2026 net income was at minus $6694.06; last year at this time minus $23,000. St. Patrick’s net income at this time $1080.57. It was decided after discussion that Nancy will speak with the Brown Accounting Firm to try and straighten out logistics in working in tantum. Definition of a mission: Joe explained when there is no permanent priest in residence, the designation is ‘mission.’ REMEMBER: Words and actions not to give up.
